CygoLite Pace 295 LED Headlight

img_1665I purchased the CygoLite Pace 295 LED Headlight from Performance Bicycle to replace my Blackburn X8 lights that were on my Novara Safari. The Pace 295 is made for Performance and is the same as Cygolites MityCross 300. Any spare parts for the MityCross will work for the Pace according to there tech support.

I wish I had a camera that could show you that this light has a good pattern and plenty of range. When doing 22 MPH at night this light allows me to avoid anything of concern with time enough to spare. The beam pattern is wide enough to make a safe normal turn but for sharp quick turns this light is lacking. I have used this light in the rain with no problems to report. The strobe mode is excellent! The battery has a long life but its cord is short (6 3/4 inches) which limits your mounting options so, you may have to buy the 3′ Extension cable but as far as I’m concerned that should have come in the box. This light does not come with a helmet mount. Regular price at Performance Bicycle was $149.00 but I got it on sale for $128.00 plus an additional 15% off. This light was well worth the money.

This video is of the more powerful MityCross 350 which is a brighter light but same features.

ICEE Bear (Stuffed Collectible) Maybe for Sale.

img_1050Here is the story behind this bear. I got this ICEE Bear around 1982 when I worked for Kmart in the snack bar (Plano, TX). There was a promotion being run for ICEE’s. When you purchased an ICEE you pulled the tab at the bottom of the cup to disclose if you won the bear or… Try Again! At the end of the promotion a sales rep came to collect any bears left over. I asked the rep if I could have one and that’s how I came to own him.

He’s in good condition for being almost being 30 years old. He measures 18″ High, 15″ wide from toe to toe. He’s A little dusty from being out and just a little bit of wear. So, my question is this:

  1. Has anyone seen an ICEE Bear like this before?
  2. Does anyone know what he’s worth?

I am interested in selling him on eBay.

Please feel free to leave your comments.

Thanks!

Movies in the Park

Got my first chance to attend Movies in the Park at Friendship Park in Bethlehem.  Tonight’s movie was “Where the Wild Things Are”. I arrived about 8:15 pm and had no problem finding a cozy spot under a tree to spread my blanket even through their was already quiet a crowd. Prior to the movie they had pre-show festivities for the kids. There is also, a concession stand where you can buy hot dogs, popcorn, and soda. All movies begin at twilight but, I recommended you come early to get a good spot and meet your neighbors. I had to leave early because of work tomorrow but I will certainly do this again! By the way… did I mention that the movies are free? Here is a list of the dates and times of the next shows.

The Bullman Street Stairway in Phillipsburg, NJ

These are some of the pictures I took of  our first bicycling ride to New Jersey. Debbie and I were going to have breakfast at Cafe Verde and came upon this huge stairway called the Bullman Street Stairway. This at one time was a major thoroughfare for the residents of  Phillipsburg, NJ. I doubt that this get much use anymore. Of course Debbie had to climb them and looking back I wish I had joined her. Breakfast at Cafe Verde was great.

My 4th of July

img_1609My 4th of July started off with an 18 mile ride following my daughter Debbie while she ran on the Ironton Trail. My job is simple. I carry her water and energy bars and give them to her when she request. She did the entire 18 miles in 98 degree weather without stopping in about 3 hours. I think that’s great considering I would have been dead in the first 5 miles. Next week she will be tying for 20 miles. That evening my wife made taco’s for dinner which my kids couldn’t resist making plenty of jokes about considering it was the 4 of July. It was great to have the entire family together again which doesn’t happen often. After dinner Debbie, Ethan and I rode to Sand Island to watch the fireworks. When we arrived there were people going around handing out free Rocket Pops. How nice is that! The firework show was not like New York City’s but it was still nice. Afterward, it was off to Heavenly Hedgehog for some ice cream. Had a good time and I was so glad Ethan came along! : )
